According to Ethiopian tradition, Menelik I, the son of Queen of Sheba and King Solomon, was the first king of Ethiopia. However, there is little historical evidence to support this claim. The earliest known reference to a king of Ethiopia dates back to the 4th century BCE, when the Greek historian Diodorus Siculus wrote about a ruler named Zoskales.
